Driver faces impaired charges after speeding through R.I.D.E. check without stopping

The 24-year-old also faces a 90-day licence suspension

A R.I.D.E. check stop on Vinden Street, Midland operated by members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) at 1:01 a.m. July 1, 2021 was the scene of a motorist accelerating through the check stop without stopping.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle nearby and upon speaking to the driver entered into a drinking and driving investigation. As a result of this investigation Cillist Russell, 24 years, of Midland has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol; and further with
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was released on an recognizance to appear before the  Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on July 15, 2021 and is subject to a 90 day licence suspension and vehicle tow/impound under the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.
