Disturbance call leads to assault, mischief charges

A 22-year-old faces two counts of assault a peace officer after allegedly assaulting two OPP officers after being arrested

MIDLAND - On July 21, 2020 at 9:36 p.m. members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance call at a Fourth Street, Midland residence.

Attending officers located and arrested the suspect at the scene causing mischief at the residence and was also found to be in violation of a court issued release order from a previous police investigation.

The suspect was transported back to detachment for further investigation and while in custody at detachment committed damage to OPP property and assaulted two of the OPP officers assisting in the investigation.

Charged in relation to these investigations is Frankie Papaleo, 22 years old, of Midland with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada;

  • Mischief - obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property (three counts)
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
  • Uttering Threats - Damage or Injure Animal
  • Assault a Peace Officer (two counts)

The accused remains in custody awaiting a future video bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland at a future date.
