Compliance checks send two to jail to await hearings

Southern Georgian Bay OPP picked up a person from Midland and a person Victoria Harbour after they violated terms of their bail in separate incidents

MIDLAND, ON - On July 12, 2020, at 12:49 a.m. members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a compliance check at a King Street Midland residence for a person on a release order from bail court for a previous police investigation. Officers were unable to have contact at that time with the person as per the conditions of release from bail court.

On July 20, 2020, Kyle Gonsalves, 26 years, of Midland, was taken into police custody and charged with the following offence.

  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in custody awaiting a future video bail hearing and court date before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland.

A second bail violator was investigated on July 11, 2020, at 11:13 p.m. as members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment conducted a compliance check at a Maple Street, Victoria Harbour residence for a person on a release order from bail court for a previous police investigation.

Officers were unable to have contact at that time with the person as per the conditions of release from bail court. Further investigation revealed that the suspect was also not present at the residence during the bail court directed times on July 10 and 13 of July 2020. On July 20, 2020 Steven Taylor 37 years of Victoria Harbour was taken into police custody and charged with the following offences.

  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court (three counts) Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in custody awaiting a future video bail hearing and court date before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland.
