Cocaine, cash, firearms seized during Tay Township, Innisfil drug busts

Tay man released on promise to appear faces charges of cocaine possession for purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

On Dec. 3, 2020 beginning at 6 a.m., members of the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police Southern Georgian Bay Detachment executed three search warrants with the assistance of the Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Tactical Response Unit (TRU) and CSCU teams from Orillia, Collingwood/Huronia West and Nottawasaga Detachments.

The warrants were executed at a residence in a condominium complex on Sea Ray Avenue in the Town of Innisfil and at two residences in the Township of Tay on Old Fort Road and Lumber Road.

Investigators located and seized the following items:
    •    2.5 kilograms of cocaine
    •    1 kilogram of phenacetin
    •    174 grams of cannabis resin
    •    9 mm Norinco semi-automatic pistol
    •    9 mm Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol
    •    64 rounds of ammunition
    •    $55,195 Canadian currency
    •    drug trafficking paraphernalia
    •    2015 BMW sedan
    •    2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck

As a result of this investigation, Kyle Gonsalves, 27 years of Innisfil; and Emily Bergman, 26 years of Innisfil have been charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Cannabis Act:
    •    Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
    •    Unauthorized possession of a firearm x2
    •    Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized x2
    •    Possession of a restricted firearms with ammunition x2
    •    Possession of a firearm obtained by crime x2
    •    Careless storage of a firearm x2
    •    Careless storage of ammunition x2
    •    Possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling

In addition Gonsalves will face three additional charges of breach of recognizance.

Gonsalves and Bergman are being held in custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice via video link for the purpose of a bail hearing on Dec. 4, 2020.

Jessie Deschamps, 27 years of Tay Township, was charged with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:
    •    Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

Deschamps was released to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland at a later date.
