Christian Island woman asleep at the wheel charged with impaired, drug possession

Cocaine, methamphetamine and crack cocaine seized along with associated drug paraphernalia and Canadian currency

TINY TWP – A member of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while on general patrol on May 19, 2020 at 1:57 a.m. entered into an investigation of a grey Chevrolet pick up truck which appeared to be stopped and not moving at the intersection of Overhead Bridge Road at Golf Link Rd. in the Township of Tiny. The officer approached the vehicle and awoke the driver unresponsive driver and entered into an impaired driving investigation using a Drug Recognition Officer (DRE). As a result of this investigation, a quantity of drugs believed to be Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Crack Cocaine were seized along with associated drug paraphernalia and Canadian currency.

Charged is Rosemarie Loretta Copegog, 44 years, of Christian Island with the following offences in relation to this investigation; 

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada  

  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine  
  • Poss of a Schedule I Substance- Other Drugs (two counts)

Contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
The accused driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days as per the conditions of the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS). Accused was released from police custody on an undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on September 3, 2020.

OPP officers remind drivers that they will be taking all precautions available during this time to protect themselves and others while conducting investigations either at the roadside or at detachment. Calls from the public are always appreciated as road safety is paramount for all road users.
