Barrie man suffers serious injuries in Springwater motorcycle crash

Police and emergency crews responded to Phelpston-area scene around 5:30 a.m., but OPP believes wreck may have happened hours earlier

A Barrie man suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle crash this morning in the Phelpston area, north of the city. 

Huronia West OPP and emergency crews responded to the single-vehicle collision scene on County Road 27 in Springwater Township shortly after 5:30 a.m., on Monday, June 5. 

Provincial police say the motorcycle left the roadway and struck a sign in the ditch. The crash is believed to have occurred sometime around 1 a.m.

The lone rider, a 17-year-old Barrie man, was taken to local hospital and later transported by Ornge air ambulance to a Toronto-area hospital with serious injuries.  

Shortly before 10 a.m., police said OPP technical collision investigators and reconstructionists are on scene assisting with the investigation.

County Road 27 will remain closed between Flos Roads 3 and 4 for the investigation.
