A Midland woman and Penetanguishene man face trafficking charges following a traffic stop in Midland Wednesday.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers aided by the force's community street crime unit  conducted a vehicle stop on Bayshore Drive Wednesday afternoon.

Police said officers conducted an investigation and discovered a quantity of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl resulting in the arrest of two vehicle occupants.

Charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking along with possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine are Rose Copegog, 44, and Steven Herron, 40.

The pair were both released to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on September 9.

This marks the second time in less than two months Copegog has been picked up by police for similar offences.

During the afternoon of March 17, local OPP officers conducted a vehicle stop on County Road 6 in Tiny Township.

After a search of the vehicle, policed seized a quantity cocaine, crack cocaine and oxycodone with a value of approximately $29,600.

The two vehicle occupants, Copegog (this time listed from Christian Island) and Sheila Kidd, 54, of Midland, were each charged with cocaine and crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking along with possession of an opioid and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The accused were both released to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on May 28.

Southern Georgian Bay Const. Aaron Coulter said there are a number of factors considered by the police or the court when deciding whether or not to release a person.

"Principally, the safety of the public is our main concern, but there are other factors to consider, including repetition of an offence," he said. "The officers releasing must make those decisions based on the guidelines we are given."
