SIU investigating after man in Cambridge, Ont., shot by police doing wellness check

CAMBRIDGE, Ont. — Ontario's police watchdog says it is investigating after police shot a 22-year-old man while doing a wellness check.

The Special Investigations Unit says officers with the Waterloo Regional Police Service were called to a home in Cambridge, Ont., Saturday afternoon.

The SIU says there was “an interaction” with the man before one of the police officers shot him.

The agency says the man was taken to hospital, where he remains with serious injuries.

It says four investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.

Anyone with information about the police shooting is asked to contact the SIU.
