Ontario reports 578 new COVID-19 cases, two new virus-related deaths

Ontario is reporting 578 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths from the virus today.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says 408 of the cases were in unvaccinated people, while 59 of those infected were partially immunized against the virus.

The new case numbers are based on 23,468 tests.

There were 111 people in intensive care with COVID-related critical illness, and 72 patients are on ventilators.

Elliott says one person in intensive care was fully vaccinated and 110 weren't vaccinated, or had an unknown immunization status.

The province says 81 per cent of residents aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 72 per cent are fully vaccinated.
