One person dead following Saturday morning apartment fire in Toronto's east end

Toronto police say one person has died following a Saturday morning fire at an apartment building in the city's east end.

They say smoke was seen from the eighth floor of the building in the area near Victoria Park Avenue and O'Connor Drive.

Toronto Fire Services say crews were met with heavy smoke and flames when they entered the building.

They say the fire was "quickly extinguished" and one person was found dead in an apartment.

No details on the victim were immediately released.

Toronto Fire Services says they are investigating the cause of the blaze.
