Peacefully passed away on June 6, 2023 at Georgian Bay General Hospital at the age of 87 years. Gerry was the beloved wife and best friend of Roger Wilson for 64 years. She was the very loving mother of Craig (deceased) and Tracy Gaffney (Dr. Greg Gaffney). She was a proud grandmother of Spencer Frost. Cherished step grandmother and step great-grandmother of 7. Loving sister of Steve Simpson. She was predeceased by her parents Russell and Alice Simpson and her brother Russ.
She graduated from the Toronto General Hospital School of Nursing in 1957 and shortly there after was promoted to head nurse and set up the first plastic surgery operating room at the hospital. She was an avid curler in her younger years and competed at the provincial level. She and Roger resided in Ottawa for 58 years and recently moved to Penetanguishene to be close to their family. They spent many wonderful years with family and friends at their beloved cottage on Blue Sea Lake in Quebec.
We want to thank the incredible staff (our other family) at Bayfield House for their wonderful care and compassion taking care of Gerry and Roger. A huge thank you to the staff at Georgian Bay General Hospital, especially on 2 East, for taking such great care of her in the last few weeks of her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the MS Society of Canada or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
Cremation has taken place and a private family ceremony will be held. Arrangements entrusted to the Penetanguishene Funeral Home.
