Passed away peacefully at home with family by his side at the age of 87. Son of the late Kurt Werner and Nora (Wolff) Werner of Germany. Peter was predeceased by his brothers Horst and Wilhelm and his sister Rosi. He is survived by his brother Klaus (Inge) Werner and sister Rotraud (Guenther) Ruehm, as well as his brother-in-law Thomas Michaeli of Germany.   Peter immigrated to Canada in 1957, started working in Montreal and Sudbury before coming to Midland and working as a Precision Mechanic at Elcan Optical Technologies (formerly Leitz Canada) for 34 years, retiring in 1995. He was an entrepreneur, a business owner, an avid sportsman, enjoying his motorcycles, skiing, ski jumping, snowmobiling, judo, boxing, scuba diving and sailing on Georgian Bay. He was also known to play his bongos and spoons to liven up any party.

But first and foremost, he was a family man and a hero to his children and grandchildren. Peter will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ulrike of 44 years, children Uschi (Juergen) Rheiner of Germany, Chrissy (Rick) Ruszkowski of Indiana, Heidi Stewart of Maryland and Dean (Michelle) Werner. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren; Christian, Kody, Ashton, Shea, Jerome, Shyla, Riece, Nora, Caydence, Gavin, Brody and Bryce, as well as 4 great grandchildren.
The family would like to  thank especially Dr. Helt for his continuous support and compassion during Peter’s illness. A thank you also goes out to the PSW’s from Care Partners and the nurses from Bayshore.

As per Peter’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation arrangements entrusted to LeClair Cremation Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
