It is with great sadness we announce Lyall's death. Born the eighth of twelve children to Samuel Frederick Newell and Margaret Maude Robertson, Lyall was raised in Victoria, British Columbia. Lyall wed the love of his life in 1944, Lillian Ivanella MacMillan (deceased 2016). Together they enjoyed the opportunity to build a long held optometric practice in Kapuskasing, Ontario, become active members of the community, and raise three daughters.
Lyall will be cherished in the memories of Victoria Holt, Janis Newell (Bernhard Kraus) and Susan Newell (Bill Molesworth). Lyall's grandchildren loved him dearly: William Samuel Newell Holt, Thomas Richard Holt (Sheena), Matthias Newell Kraus (Nicki Hubert) and Hannah Newell Kraus (Nick Waters), as well as Bernhard's daughter, Heide Kraus (Jeff Kelso) and their children, Hayden, Emily and Colton. The arrival of great grandchildren Patrick and Rory Holt delighted him greatly. We shall all share stories of his kindness, generosity and quirky sense of humour.
