Elizabeth “Liesje” Hendrika Lancia, 81, of Perkinsfield, ON, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. She was blessed to be surrounded by family at the time.

Liesje was born in Rotterdam, Holland on April 1, 1941. After graduating from college and marrying, she immigrated to Canada at 21, later becoming a Canadian citizen. She lived a very full life, and with great determination and courage she held on until just three weeks before her 82nd birthday. Liesje is survived by Anthony Lancia, her husband of 47 years, and her five children: Ruby, Tina, Richard, Patricia, and Emily.

Liesje was a kind and thoughtful soul, a lifelong volunteer, and an enthusiastic community organizer who will be missed and remembered by the many people whose lives she touched. Many will also know her from her work running the Observer newspaper in Tiny Township and then as the owner-operator of Standlith Design printing services in Perkinsfield. Her dedication to her clients was second to none and she always went the extra mile for everyone who came through the door.

Although Liesje had a rewarding career, she will be most fondly remembered for her unwavering volunteer spirit. She donated most of her time to supporting many worthy causes in the province and close to home. She was awarded the Senior of the Year Award in 2018 in recognition of her enrichment to the social, cultural and civic life of Tiny Township, and in 2020 she was recognized by the Province of Ontario for her years of service to Lions Club International. Her long history of volunteering also included the Midland Rotary Club, We Are the Villagers, the Learning Disabilities Association, and many more organizations too numerous to list.

At Liesje’s request, there will only be a private gathering for family and no public funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Canadian Cancer Society.
