With his loving family by his side, Gord peacefully went to his final rest on February 23, 2023.

Born in Midland, predeceased by his beloved parents, Robert and Mary Hatley. Gord is survived by his much loved and loving partner Marie Copegog. Cherished brother to Denise Hurlbut (Guy Gravel), Jayne Hatley, Barbara Hatley (Matt Cudahy), and his twin brother George.  Nephew to John and Delcie Moriarty, Jim Moriarty (late Brenda), Lorraine Hatley (late Bill).  Gord was a fun-loving Uncle to five nephews and one niece, and will be missed by his cousins.

During his youth, Gord was active in sports including hockey, baseball, golf and was competitive in cross country running and swimming.  His adult life saw him develop an enjoyment for curling, and a love for golf.  Gord enjoyed fishing and duck hunting and anything involving the beautiful waters of Georgian Bay.

After leaving High School, Gord worked as a short order cook and continued this occupation when he moved to Alberta.  Gord returned to Midland in 1984, where he was employed by Community Living Huronia working in group homes and as Maintenance Supervisor at the Midland Mountain View Mall.

Gord loved all animals, but had a special connection with numerous different dogs over his lifetime.  Gord was referred to as a “dog whisperer” as he had an incredible connection with most every dog he met. The company of a close circle of friends was central in Gord's life.

Gord’s loving relationship with Marie Copagog were the best years of his life.  Marie's companionship during this time was a source of immense joy and contentment to him.  Marie brought love, peace and comfort to Gord during his final days. The family wish to extend their overwhelming gratitude to Dr. Bruno Golisky, Dr. Morris, The Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre and teams, and the Doctors and Staff at GBGH for the care Gord received at the conclusion of his life.

In remembrance of Gord's generous, empathetic nature, an act of kindness to one in need would be a befitting testimony to his memory.  In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Midland food bank or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.  The date for a celebration of life will follow.
