THE TOWNSHIP OF TINY
Whether you are an avid or an amateur golfer, the Mayor’s Charity Golf-a-thon lets participants golf whenever and wherever they want. Golfers will collect pledges for every round of golf completed throughout the months of July to September and track them with an online system. All monies collected go directly to support local and deserving charities and organizations.
In April 2020, the Township of Tiny announced that this year’s Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament and Dinner, scheduled for Friday, July 24, 2020, was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In an effort to continue support for local charities, the event organizing committee investigated alternative fundraising options.
“This is an amazing opportunity for the community to ‘come together’ to support local organizations, while following the provincial call for physical distancing,” Mayor George Cornell said. “Since 2015, the Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament event has contributed more than $230,000 to over 20 organizations and we intend to continue this commitment throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The Township of Tiny would like to recognize the Tiny Cottager as the event’s Founding Sponsor. Paul Cowley, President of the Federation of Tiny Township Shoreline Associations said, “we strive to support the community through charitable initiatives and cooperating with key partners, including the Township of Tiny, that support like goals and objectives.” Additionally, the Township would like to recognize both the Brooklea Golf & County Club and the Orr Lake Golf Club as this year’s event participating golf courses.
Later this year, participants, donors, sponsors and charity recipients will be invited to tune into a livestreamed Virtual Dinner event to announce Golf-a-thon prize winners and present cheques to the supported charities.
