Two more people have died in Ontario today of COVID-19.
Both women were residents of nursing homes, and their deaths bring the provincial total to 8.
Ontario Health reported one death this morning and one this evening. These are the first nursing home residents to die of the virus in Ontario.
An 80-year-old female resident of Heritage Green Nursing Home in Stoney Creek died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton this morning. She had been in isolation at the hospital since March 16.
Public health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at the nursing home, and at least two residents have tested positive for the virus.
According to a CBC report, Hamilton Public Health could not determine the transmission source of the virus in this case.
This morning Durham Region Health Department confirmed the province’s seventh COVID-19 related death.
The woman was in her 90s and a resident at Hillsdale Terraces in Oshawa. She died on March 23 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.
According to a Global News report, there are four residents at Hillsdale confirmed positive for COVID-19.
Ontario has 588 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19, with eight recoveries and eight deaths.
