Development in Tiny is about to cost more.

Council will be looking Monday at a report by consultants that recommends a 2% annual increase in current building permit fees. This would mean variable fees for apartment buildings will go up to $0.81/sq. ft., garden suite and model trailer to go up to $2,558, minor repairs to increase to $179, small farm building to go up to $959 and retaining wall permits to be charged at $265.

The new rates are designed to balance the township’s need to recover costs and ensure building permit reserve fund sustainability.

Also included on the committee of the whole agenda is a presentation by Lynne Archibald, secretary of Federation of Tiny Township Shoreline Association about gypsy moth infestation in the township.

Once again, the association has conducted a survey on the issue. The questionnaire was sent to 1,237 residents in the municipalities with only 28% responding in a week. Of the respondents, 66% say there are more egg masses now than there were last year. As an action, 42% of the respondents say they are actively addressing the issue. Out of all participants, 65% want an aerial spraying program throughout the township and 28% want to spray the areas of the township most severely infested.

In addition to this request, council members will also discuss their previous presentation around road safety, an issue that was also brought forward by another beach group.

Council will also take a look at something called the beach enjoyment strategy, which will be presented by staff.

The strategy defines the best uses of Tiny-owned beaches, including the steps outlined in the municipal stretagic plan, recreation master plan, official plan and parking strategy. This entire strategy also includes steps taken towards delineation of municipally owned properties from private ones, increasing trail connectivity through active transportation and a wayfinding master plan.

The meeting will be streamed live online via the township's YouTube channel.
