There are 206 new COVID cases in Ontario today

There have been 2,595 deaths from the coronavirus in the province, including 1,651 in long-term care homes

The number of new COVID-19 cases reported today is on par with how many people have recovered from the disease since the last provincial report on Friday.  

Public Health Ontario is reporting 206 new cases of COVID-19 this morning.

That brings the total number of cases in the province to 33,301. Of those, 28,468 cases have recovered, or 85.5 per cent. 

The health organization also says 218 people have recovered since the last update on Friday. 

Around 16 per cent of all cases (5,345) in Ontario are among long-term care residents. Additionally, 6.5 per cent of COVID cases (2,153) are in health-care workers associated with long-term care outbreaks.

There have now been 2,595 deaths from the coronavirus in the province, including 1,651 in long-term care homes, which represents about two-thirds of all fatal cases. 

More than 1.15 million tests have now been completed in Ontario, including 27,387 on Friday. Health officials are currently investigating 16,963 of those cases.

The number of people currently hospitalized in Ontario with COVID-19 sits at 333, with 80 people being cared for in an intensive care unit (ICU). There are also 63 people on a ventilator.
