NEWS RELEASE
GEORGIAN BAY HOSPITAL FOUNDATION
*************************
Tay Township Mayor Ted Walker and Councillor Paul Raymond visited Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) last month to present a gift of $37,500 to representatives from the hospital and the foundation.

The investment includes $25,000 for the GBGH Foundation’s Impact Fund, and $12,500 to support physician recruitment efforts for the community.  This brings the township’s total support to more than $456,000.

The support from local communities is vital to a strong hospital, helping to equip the GBGH team with the technology and equipment used to provide care to thousands of patients every year. In 2023, some of the most urgent priorities include an MRI machine, brand new x-ray rooms, surgical & procedure tables and laboratory equipment.

“Tay Township has been a loyal partner of the GBGH Foundation for many years,” says Nicole Kraftscik, CEO, GBGH Foundation.

“We value our partnerships with our local municipalities, and share their vision of collaboration to ensure a strong vibrant future for our region. This gift is going to help strengthen our hospital to care for the entire community.”

The donation to Georgian Bay Physician Recruitment will fund efforts to ensure everyone in the community has a family doctor, now and in the future. Our community and hospital will require more than 20 new family physicians and specialists over the next five years to fill the gaps of retiring physicians and community expansion, making recruitment and retention a top priority.

“There continue to be significant recruitment challenges for both community and hospital-based physicians,” says Dr. Jeff Golisky, chair, Georgian Bay Physician Recruitment.  “We appreciate the generous support from Tay Township to help support community visits, locum accommodations, relocation expenses and marketing efforts to ensure that we are a top choice for physicians looking to establish a practice.”
