Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported two more deaths attributed to COVID-19 today.
The victims were a man in his 70s from Springwater and another resident of Bradford Valley - a woman in her 90s. The man in his 70s died at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. The woman died at her long-term care facility.
This is the third death reported from Bradford Valley long term care facility. Yesterday, the health unit reported the death of a woman in her 80s, and on the weekend reported the death of a man in his 90s, both were residents at Bradford Valley.
“We are testing everybody at that facility,” said Dr. Charles Gardner, medical officer of health for Simcoe Muskoka. “That will result in over 500 people being tested.”
Gardner said it was done at the request of the Bradford Valley medical director, and the facility is working with the testing centre at Southlake Regional Health Centre.
Southlake is also standing by to provide staffing resources for the facility if necessary.
Since yesterday, the health unit has reported an additional six cases, including one more woman in her 70s at Bradford Valley.
Other new cases include two women in their 30s from Bradford, both are self-isolating.
A man in his 30s from Barrie has also tested positive and is reported as a community acquired case. A Barrie man in his 70s reported positive yesterday is now hospitalized.
An Essa man in his 40s and an Adjala-Tosorontio man in his 40s have also tested positive for the virus. Both are self-isolating.
There are now 165 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe Muskoka region residents, including 70 recoveries, 50 self-isolating, 20 isolated at Bradford Valley, 12 hospitalized patients and 11 deaths.
The case breakdown for towns and cities in Simcoe County is as follows: Bradford W-G (43), Barrie (37), New Tecumseth (18), Orillia (10), Collingwood (7), Innisfil (5), Springwater (5), Midland (4), Wasaga Beach (4), Oro-Medonte (4), Adjala-Tosorontio (3), Clearview (2), Essa (3), Ramara (2), Tiny (2), Penetanguishene (2).
There are also 14 cases confirmed in the Muskoka Region.
The infection rate for Simcoe Muskoka region is 26 lab-confirmed cases per 100,000 population. The provincial average is 56.8 cases per 100,000 population.
