Current details:

Hazardous lake effect snow squalls to impact the region through the weekend.

Hazards:

Additional snowfall accumulations possibly exceeding 40 cm by Sunday afternoon.
Peak snowfall rates of 5 to 10 cm per hour.
Very poor to zero visibility at times in heavy snow and local blowing snow.
Power outages possible due to the heavy wet nature of the snow.

Timing:

Continuing through Sunday afternoon, and possibly into Monday for some areas.

Discussion:

Lake effect snow squalls off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay will affect the area through the weekend. Snow squalls may move north of the area for a time later today before shifting south again by Sunday morning. Snow squalls should move south of the area Sunday afternoon. As winds become northwesterly, additional lake effect snow off Georgian Bay will develop Sunday night into Monday. Travel is expected to be difficult to nearly impossible at times under these snow squalls. As is common with snow squalls, snowfall amounts will be highly variable.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Road closures are possible.

If you must travel, keep others informed of your schedule and destination and carry an emergency kit and mobile phone. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
