Santa Claus parade delights onlookers in downtown Midland

Kids and adults alike line streets for annual event

The Midland Santa Claus Parade drew a crowd downtown Saturday.

There were floats, marching bands, performing dancers, free hot chocolate, and even clowns handing out candy along with parade participants. Children and parents alike scrambled to pick up as many as they could fit in their pockets.

Some furry friends also joined in, much to Aeryn MacDonald’s delight.

“My favourite part was the puppies,” she said.

Her friend, Trapper Watters, enjoyed seeing the Grinch locked up the most. Maybe it was to ensure none of his Christmas goodies were stolen this season. Fortunately, they were safe thanks to local police and their trusty canines.

“My mom wraps movies and every night we pick one to unwrap and watch,” said Teagan MacDonald when asked how her family spends Christmas together.

“I love the personally made floats,” said Alexandra Yee. “They’ve given me a lot of ideas.”

This was the first parade for her daughter, Beatrice, and seeing how much fun they and everyone else had has inspired her to join in next year.

Keagan Bolak came to watch her four-year-old daughter’s float along with Dan McGrady. She’s part of the dance team at Dancers Studio.

“They spent weeks preparing for the parade,” said McGrady, whose favourite part of the parade was Scrooge shaking his fists at all the smiling faces.
