'Relaxation on demand': New online platform helps reduce stress

'I lived in an era where the more successful you were, the busier you needed to be... but if you live like that, you get sick,' says Relaxation Lounge creator

Everybody gets stressed, but it’s how you deal with your stress that can determine just how big of an impact it can have on your overall well-being.

Denise Eckert knows first-hand the negative effects that stress can have on your health after a high-pressure career, organizing large-scale medical conferences, left her burnt out and sick.

“My doctor kept telling me to slow down, but I had no idea how to slow down (and) the only real relaxation practice I was aware of at the time were things like meditation, and I really didn’t like it because... there would be too many things on my mind and I just can’t slow down,” she says.

Eckert says she eventually realized she had to quit her job because of how burnt out she was and how sick she was getting all the time.

“It ruined my relationship and it was pretty dramatic," she says.

After leaving her high-pressure job, Eckert decided she wanted to find a way to help other women with stress to avoid ending up burning out the same way she had, so became a certified coach, but admitted that never quite felt like the right “fit.”

She did, however, fall in love with the various relaxation practices she learned and recently decided to put the various practices together into one simple website.

Eckert officially launched The Relaxation Lounge  a new, online membership platform designed to help busy women reduce their stress quickly and easily  on April 26. The lounge hosts a variety of stress-reducing relaxation practices for the members to use.

“We all get stressed, (so) it’s just about becoming aware of the stress… because if we stay in that type of stress, we will get sick. It’s about creating awareness and then stopping and doing something,” she says. “People think they need a break when feeling stressed, so they plop themselves down in front of the TV or onto the couch, but it doesn’t really do that much.

"A lot of these practices give you energy at the end, refocus your mind and rejuvenate you.”

Taking advantage of a variety of different relaxation techniques has been “very powerful” in her own life, she says.

“I used to be such a burnout. I lived in an era where the more successful you were the busier you needed to be... but if you live like that, you get sick.”

The Relaxation Lounge has monthly memberships where people can select whichever practice most suits their needs  whether it be a sound bath, hypnotherapy, EFT, etc.

Eckart also says the site boasts multiple practitioners, so if one doesn’t resonate with a user, there is likely another who will.

“It’s pretty simple,” she says. “I am constantly adding things to the site. It’s nice, because over time it will be quite the directory. …It’s relaxation on demand, so when you need it, it’s there.”
