A 23-year-old Tottenham woman was charged after the South Simcoe Police Service responded to a report of a dog left in a hot car in Bradford.
On Saturday, May 14, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers arrived at a parking lot on Holland Street West. Once on scene they learned a passerby had heard a dog barking and observed a puppy in obvious distress in a vehicle.
The windows were rolled down approximately 2.5 inches. The citizen managed to squeeze his arm into the vehicle’s window to unlock the door. The dog was removed to a store and given water to cool down.
Information obtained indicates the dog was left in the vehicle for about 30 minutes. The weather was hot and sunny with a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. The owner arrived on scene and spoke to police.
As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old Tottenham woman was charged with cause distress to an animal under the Provincial Animal Welfare Services Act.
The South Simcoe Police Service wants to remind people of the dangers of leaving children and pets unattended in vehicles, especially on hot days. It’s never safe to leave a child or a pet alone in a vehicle, even for a brief time and with the windows rolled down. If you come across a situation like this, call 911.
