NEWS RELEASE
TOWN OF PENETANGUISHENE

From April 18 to 24, Volunteer Canada and The Town of Penetanguishene celebrate Canada’s 12.7 million volunteers during National Volunteer Week (NVW).

In the past year, The Town of Penetanguishene has had to cancel many of our usual events that rely on our wonderful community volunteers. Although these in-person events have been canceled, our appreciation towards our volunteers remains strong.

For Winterama alone, the Town has relied on over 50+ volunteers to make “the longest running winter carnival in Ontario” a success each year. These volunteers were greatly missed this year as we transitioned the event online, however we are so grateful for the number of calls and emails offering their assistance in other ways.

Our event volunteers are just a small part of our community volunteer base. This year we are grateful for the 260+ residents that have stepped up and offered their time to volunteer at the COVID-19 vaccination clinics across Simcoe County. This is a true testament to how selfless a volunteer is. We can not thank you enough for supporting the fight against COVID-19 in our communities.

“On behalf of Council, I thank not only the volunteers from our service organizations, boards and committees, but the neighbours who have gone an extra mile this year to ensure their friends and families have the food and support they need while fighting through the pandemic” says Mayor Doug Leroux.  “This pandemic created a call to action, and I am grateful to hear the heartwarming stories of volunteers working to keep each other safe and healthy each day.”
