Penetanguishene offers snow-fort safety reminder

Children are not to build snow tunnels or forts in public areas
A snow fort being built in Lawrencetown, N.S. is shown in a handout photo. Steve Bayers, his son Ben and a friend were building the large snow fort on Saturday when the roof caved in, pinning Bayers' arms and legs underneath him. Bayers is crediting the family's dog with saving them after the fort collapsed. THE CANADIAN PRESS-HO-Steve Bayers

The Town of Penetanguishene Public Works Department would like to remind residents/businesses that children are not to build tunnels or forts inside snowbanks within municipal road allowances or parking lots. Plow drivers can arrive at any time, day or night, within the road network and municipal parking lots and may not be able to see children playing inside the snowbanks.

We would like to thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the above, please contact the Public Works Department at 705-549-7992.
