Ontario reported 216 new COVID cases today

Public Health Ontario has reported 216 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 this morning, a slight increase over last week's daily reports. 

In the last 10 days, the daily case report has only been over 200 new cases twice, once on June 20 and again today. 

The number of tests processed has dipped slightly with 16,189 tests processed since yesterday's report. Last week, there were between 21,000 and 27,000 tests processed each day. 

The province has confirmed 10 more deaths related to coronavirus. All ten deaths reported today were residents in long-term care homes, nine people were over the age of 80 and one person was between 60 and 79 years old. 

Nine more people have been admitted to intensive care units with COVID-19 and another 26 people have been hospitalized. There are currently 288 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 75 in intensive care units and 54 patients on ventilators. 

The province has confirmed a total of 33,853 cases since January, and reports 86 per cent of those cases (29,107) are now recovered. There have been 2,619 deaths reported by Public Health Ontario and attributed to COVID-19. 

The average incidence rate for the province is 227.7 cases per 100,000 people. 

There are now 2,127 active cases of the coronavirus in Ontario.

As of yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit confirmed 564 cases of COVID-19 in the region to-date, and 464 are reported as recovered (82 per cent). There have been 36 deaths in the region linked to the coronavirus.

There are 64 active cases of COVID-19 in the region, including five people who have been hospitalized with the virus.
