New COVID cases confirmed in Ontario are up by 44 per cent compared to yesterday with 170 new cases reported today over yesterday's 118.
Today's new case count is also the highest reported in July.
Of today's new cases, 86 were reported by the Windsor Essex County Health Unit, bringing the total number of cases in that health unit region to 1,761.
Toronto reported 27 new cases and Peel reported 28.
Of the new cases reported today, 95 were individuals between the ages of 20 and 39. There are 21 new cases reported in health care workers today.
Though the province reported its highest number of new cases in a day for this month, the total number of active cases in Ontario has not increased. Public Health Ontario reported 172 new recoveries and three deaths in its latest report.
According to today's epidemiological summary, one person between the ages of 40 and 59, one person between the ages of 60 and 79, and one person over the age of 80 has died with COVID-19.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 36,348 cases in the province to-date and reported 31,977 recoveries and 2,703 deaths. There are now 1,668 active cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, including 123 patients currently hospitalized with 31 patients in intensive care and 23 patients on ventilators.
Since the last report, the province's update indicates there were 26,326 coronavirus tests processed and there have been a total of 1.6 million tests processed in the province.
The province of Ontario has extended its emergency orders to July 22, but the state of emergency is only extended to July 15 so far.
The provincial average incidence rate is 244.5 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
An order from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, has mandated all businesses and indoor public spaces in Simcoe County and Muskoka District require customers and employees to wear masks. That order is effective as of Monday, July 13.
There are now 30 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County and Muskoka District, according to the health unit's epidemiological report.
Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 606 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region.
Thirty-six people have died and the health unit has reported 540 recoveries and 36 deaths. The incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 102.1 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
There are two people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Simcoe County and one in Muskoka.
