The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 28 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths today (June 14) in its first update since Friday.
There are 215 active cases in the region.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,159 cases of COVID-19 with 11,277 of those cases recovered and 246 cases ending in death.
There are 22 people from Simcoe County and one person from Muskoka District hospitalized with COVID-19.
The health unit has reported a total of 4,798 variant strain cases, with 135 of those still active.
Today's update also includes the following information on variants of concern:
- To date 3,918 local cases have tested positive for the COVID-19 variant of concern B.1.1.7 (alpha), 153 cases have tested positive for the P.1 variant of concern (gamma), 27 cases have tested positive for the B.1.351 variant of concern (beta), 14 cases have tested positive for the B.1.617.2 variant of concern (delta), and an additional 686 cases have screened positive (awaiting confirmatory testing).
- Note: all B.1.617 cases are currently presumed to be of the B.1.617.2 (delta) lineage as it is the dominant B.1.617 strain in Ontario.
To date, 373,892 Simcoe-Muskoka residents (61.9 per cent of the population) region have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19, which is 72.3 per cent of the region's over-18 population.
As of today, 64,376 people (10.6 per cent of the population) have also received a second dose.
The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified).
- Barrie (11): One youth under 18 years old, eight people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Seven cases are linked to close contact transmission, and two are outbreak-related.
- Innisfil (5): One youth under 18 years old, three people between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 35 and 44 years old. Three cases are linked to close contact transmission and two were community-acquired.
- Bradford West Gwillimbury (5): Two youth under 18 years old, and three people between 18 and 34 years old. Three cases are linked to close contact and one is outbreak-related.
- Orillia (2): Two people between 35 and 44 years old. One case is outbreak-related.
- Ramara (2): Two people between 45 and 64 years old. Both cases are listed as community-acquired.
- Severn (1): One person between 35 and 44 years old whose case is linked to close contact transmission.
- New Tecumseth (2): One person between 35 and 44 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old.
