Nine local residents among 117 new COVID cases in Simcoe-Muskoka Friday

Five new cases in Midland, three in Penetanguishene and one in Tiny Township

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 117 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths in its latest update posted Dec. 3.

A Bradford and an Essa man have died after contracting COVID-19. One of the men was over 79 years old and one was between 45 and 64 years old. Both died on Nov. 24.  

The new cases reported in the region today are as follows:  

  • Midland (5): One youth under 18 years old, three people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. All five cases are still under investigation. 
  • Tiny (1): One youth under 18 years old whose case is still under investigation. 
  • Penetanguishene (3): One person between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. All three cases are still under investigation.
  • Collingwood (5): Three youth under 18 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. All five cases are still under investigation. 
  • Wasaga Beach (6): Two youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission and the rest are still under investigation. 
  • Barrie (35): Ten youth under 18 years old, eight people between 18 and 34 years old, nine people between 35 and 44 years old, five people between 45 and 64 years old, two people between 65 and 79 years old, and one person over 79 years old. Five cases are linked to close contact transmission, six are outbreak-related, five are listed as community-acquired (no known link) and the rest are still under investigation. 
  • Springwater (2): Two people between 45 and 64 years old. Both cases are still under investigation. 
  • Innisfil (6): Four youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 35 and 44 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact, one is listed as community-acquired (no known link), and the rest are still under investigation.
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (13): Nine youth under 18 years old, three people between 35 and 44 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Three cases are outbreak-related, three are linked to close contact transmission, and one is listed as community-acquired (no known link). The rest are still under investigation.
  • Orillia (9): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, three people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is linked to travel and the rest are still under investigation. 
  • Ramara (5): One person between 35 and 44 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, two people between 65 and 79 years old, and one person over 79 years old. All five cases are still under investigation.
  • Oro-Medonte (2): One youth under 18 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is outbreak-related and one is still under investigation.
  • Severn (7): Two youth under. 18 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, and two people between 65 and 79 years old. All seven cases are still under investigation.
  • New Tecumseth (6): One person between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Two cases are listed as community-acquired (no known link). 
  • Essa (2): One youth under 18 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission and the other is still under investigation. 
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (2): One person between 18 and 34 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission and one is still under investigation. 
  • Muskoka District (8): Two people from Bracebridge, one person from Gravenhurst, one person from Georgian Bay, three people from Huntsville, and one person from Muskoka Lakes.

Included in the new cases reported today are 67 unvaccinated, three partially vaccinated, and 47 fully vaccinated people. 

There are currently 705 active cases in the region. 

Twenty-nine people from Simcoe County and one person from Muskoka District are hospitalized with COVID-19. 

Over the last eight weeks there have been 76 Simcoe-Muskoka residents hospitalized with COVID-19, and among them 22 were fully vaccinated, five were partially vaccinated and 49 were unvaccinated.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 15,920 cases of COVID-19 with 14,935 of those cases recovered and 280 cases ending in death. 

More than 74 per cent of the population living in Simcoe-Muskoka (including children) have received both doses of vaccine and nearly 78 per cent have had at least one dose of a vaccine.

  • Stayner Collegiate Institute, Stayner, declared Dec. 2, two cases
  • Elmvale District High School, Elmvale, declared Dec. 2, four cases
  • Willow Landing Elementary School, Barrie, declared Dec. 2, two cases (previously in outbreak from Nov. 4-10)
  • La Source Elementary School, Barrie, declared Dec. 2, four cases
  • Innisdale Secondary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 29, two cases
  • Our Lady of Grace Elementary School, Angus, declared Nov. 29, two cases
  • Unnamed private school, Simcoe County, declared Nov. 26, 28 cases
  • Ferndale Woods Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 26, eight cases
  • Uptergrove Public School, Ramara, declared Nov. 26, three cases 
  • St. John Vianney Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 26, nine cases 
  • Monsignor Lee Catholic elementary school, Orillia, declared Nov. 24, two cases
  • Hewitt's Creek Public School, Barrie, declared Nov. 22, six cases
  • Tosorontio Central Public School, Everett, declared Nov. 22, 15 cases
  • ESC Nouvelle Alliance (secondary school), Barrie, declared Nov. 19, three cases. 
  • Forest Hill Public School, Midhurst, declared Nov. 19, five cases
  • West Bayfield Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 18, seven cases
  • Trillium Woods Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 18, six cases
  • Severn Shores Public School, Cumberland Beach, declared Nov. 18, eight cases 
  • Maple Grove Public School, Barrie, declared Nov. 16, 14 cases
  • St. Marie of the Incarnation, Bradford, declared Nov. 15, nine cases
  • Monsignor Clair Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 15, eight cases
  • Terry Fox Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 10, 12 cases

An outbreak declared at St. Catherine of Siena Elementary School in Barrie on Nov. 1, is now over. There were 11 cases associated with the outbreak. The outbreak at W. C. Little Elementary School in Barrie is also over, there were 10 cases associated with that outbreak.

Other ongoing outbreaks reported in Simcoe County include: 

  • Two unnamed childcare facilities in Simcoe County, both declared on Dec. 2, both with two cases.
  • Orillia Soldier's Memorial Hospital, Orillia, declared Dec. 1, fewer than five patient cases.
  • Waterford Retirement Residence, Barrie, declared Nov. 29, one staff and one resident case
  • Fitness and sports centre, Simcoe County, declared Nov. 26, eight cases
  • Unnamed shelter in Simcoe County, declared Nov. 19, nine cases
  • Unnamed shelter in Simcoe County, declared Nov. 1, 26 cases
