Test results of an employee working at Midland's Walmart Supercentre have come back negative for COVID-19.

Last Wednesday, the story temporarily closed after officials were informed of a presumptive case of COVID 19 related to one of their associates.

As a precaution, the store underwent a thorough deep cleaning to ensure it’s up to the standards "our customers and associates expect and deserve," Walmart Canada corporate affairs director Adam Grachnik said, noting the company also worked closely with health officials.

And while the employees tested negative, Grachnik said Tuesday store hours have changed.

"You might be interested to know that our regular store operating hours will be reduced to 8 a.m. to 8 pm every day," he said. "On weekdays from 7 to 8 a.m., we’re temporarily dedicating the opening hour of stores across the country exclusively for our seniors (ages 65+), the disabled, and those with vulnerable health conditions."

Walmart Canada also announced a bonus and premium pay program earlier today.

The company's 90,000 store and supply chain employees will receive a $200 March bonus for active full-time workers and half that for part-time ones, the company said in a statement.

Walmart will also pay each store and supply chain worker who is paid hourly an extra $2 per hour between April 3 and 30, and they will receive an additional 10 per cent discount for two days next month to help them purchase essentials.
