Midland girl celebrates ninth birthday by helping homeless

'This makes me very proud and filled with joy that she is spreading the love and compassion I'm trying to teach her,' Lily-Lynn Beauchamp's mother says

Lily-Lynn Beauchamp may be young, but she already understands well the concept of paying it forward.

The nine-year-old Midland girl should serve as an inspiration to others about the importance of always thinking of others first. As part of her recent birthday celebrations, Lily-Lyn wanted to give back to the community she calls home.

“A few weeks before her birthday party we were taking about giving back to the community as this is something we've done for many years,” her mother Julieanne LePage tells MidlandToday.

“A family friend of her father's, recently ended up homeless and that made her think of The Guesthouse Shelter to help the homeless community in our local area.”

So on May 5, the day she turned nine, Lily-Lynn collected donations for the downtown Midland shelter.

“She decided about this all on her own accord,” Julieanne says, noting that she and her daughter met up with Guesthouse manager Nathan Sykes soon after to drop off seven “very full” bags of donated food.

Julieanne says her daughter, who’s a Grade 3 student at Sacred Heart Catholic School, is always advocating to increase awareness for the homeless living in the community.

“As her mother, this makes me very proud of her and filled with joy that she is spreading the love and compassion I'm trying to teach her,” she says.
