WATCH: Child-care centres, summer day camps permitted to reopen as of Friday

Child-care centres and summer day camps will be permitted to open so long as they meet provincial guidelines

Update:

Premier Doug Ford announced today that child-care centres will be permitted to reopen as of Friday.

This includes in-home child-care providers.

There will be strict guidelines in place and child-care centres will not be permitted to open until those guidelines are met.

Guidelines include only allowing 10 people in a confined space, including staff and children; thorough cleaning; screening of staff and children; and a no visitor policy.

Summer day camps will be permitted to open as part of Stage 2.

Original story:

Premier Doug Ford is expected to announce Ontario's plan to reopen child-care centres at 1 p.m. today outside of Queen's Park.

This comes after yesterday's announcement that more of the province's economy (most regions outside of the Toronto area) will be entering Stage 2 of the Reopening Framework on Friday.

Some child-care centres in the province have remained opened throughout the pandemic to provide free service to the families of essential workers.

Ford will be joined by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, and Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education, to make the announcement.

Village Media will carry the livestream, so stay tuned.
