Hwy. 400 closed in both directions through Barrie following separate incidents

Police investigating after a person fell from the Anne Street bridge; There was also an unrelated crash in the southbound lanes

Two separate events on Highway 400 through Barrie tonight affected evening traffic around the Anne Street bridge.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the first incident involved a pedestrian who fell from the bridge into the northbound lanes.

That person has been transported to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), but police did not have an update on their condition Thursday evening.

Northbound lanes were shut down for the ongoing investigation.

There was also a rollover in the southbound lanes, just north of the Anne Street bridge, which Schmidt said involved “multiple vehicles" and "people trapped inside those vehicles.”

Barrie police were assisting with traffic control while OPP attend to that situation.

Schmidt urged motorists to avoid the area if possible.

Around 6:30 p.m., police were beginning to allow some traffic through in both directions, but motorists were still reporting significant back-ups around 7:30 p.m.
