'Hunky-dory': David Bowie tribute coming to MCC this April

Performer Michael Bell channels his inner David Bowie during The Bowie Lives: 'Canada's most sensational Bowie spectacular'

From the opening guitar riff of Rebel Rebel to the eclectic beat of Ashes to Ashes, David Bowie definitely left his mark on the music world.

Now, Michael Bell is bringing his tribute to the man born as David Jones to the Midland Cultural Centre.

The Bowie Lives: 'Canada’s Most Sensational Bowie Spectacular' takes the stage April 28 at 7:30 p.m. with tickets ranging from $73 to $79, including tax and surcharges.

In a release, Bell is described as an award-winning vocalist who channels the sound and styles of Bowie, and with the help of an all-star band, theatre and costumes that capture the imagination of fans young and old.

Bell’s first theatrical production ChangesAllBowie toured the "A circuit" in the late 1980s, but he hung up his "Ziggy" persona in the early '90s.

“After David's untimely death on January 10, 2016, his calling returned, as did the industry interest,” the release noted.

“Contacting long-time musical director Michael Beauclerc, they began auditioning players to fill out a band capable of performing some of rock's most challenging material. The Bowie Lives brings all the sounds and visions to the stage from Space Oddity to Lazarus” with Bell describing it as “more of a happening.”

Audience members are encouraged to sport their favourite Bowie look. There’s even free face painting offered in the lobby along with a vendor’s display selling Bowie collectibles, t-shirts, music and other merchandise.
