NEWS RELEASE
TOWNSHIP OF TINY
*************************
A reminder to residents that the half load season has commenced in the Township of Tiny and will run from the period of March 1, to April 30, 2021.

While the reduced load restrictions are in effect, no commercial vehicle or trailer may be operated or drawn upon any road within the Township of Tiny where the weight per axle exceeds 5 tonnes.

In accordance with Township of Tiny By-law 07-031 as amended by By-Law 10-006 and Section 122 of the Highway Traffic Act: Reduced load restrictions will be in effect from March 1 to April 30 inclusive, and may be extended into May at the Township’s discretion.

Reason for weight requirements

In the spring, as frost comes out of the ground and moisture comes out of the road bed:

  • Roads become softer and weaker;
  • Heavy loads on roads can cause it to sink and break apart, which can lead to permanent damage;
  • Half-load restrictions are put in place to protect our roads and road beds from being damaged;
  • Reduces the need of having to re-build a road after every spring thaw.
