Four local residents among 97 new COVID cases in Simcoe Muskoka Thursday

There are two new cases in Midland and one each in Tiny and Tay

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 97 new COVID-19 cases and zero deaths in its latest update posted Dec. 2. 

The new cases reported in the region today are as follows:  

  • Midland (2): One person between 18 and 34 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Both cases are still under investigation. 
  • Tay (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old whose case is still under investigation. 
  • Tiny (1): One person between 35 and 44 years old whose case is still under investigation.
  • Collingwood (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old whose case is still under investigation. 
  • Clearview (4): One youth under 18 years old, and three people between 45 and 64 years old. All four cases are still under investigation. 
  • Wasaga Beach (3): One youth under 18 years old, and two people between 18 and 34 years old. One case is linked to close contact, and one is listed as community-acquired (no known link). 
  • Barrie (35): Five youth under 18 years old, eight people between 18 and 34 years old, six people between 35 and 44 years old, 11 people between 45 and 64 years old, and five people between 65 and 79 years old. 15 cases are linked to close contact transmission, one is outbreak-related, seven are listed as community-acquired (no known link) and the rest are still under investigation. 
  • Springwater (2): Two people between 45 and 64 years old. Both cases are still under investigation. 
  • Innisfil (4): Three youth under 18 years old, and one person between 18 and 34 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission, two are listed as community-acquired (no known link), and one is still under investigation. 
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (10): Four youth under 18 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, three people between 45 and 64 tears old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact transmission, one is outbreak-related, and one is listed as community-acquired (no known link). The remaining cases are still under investigation. 
  • Orillia (16): Two youth under 18 years old, six people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, five people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact transmission, and two are listed as community-acquired (no known link). The remaining cases are still under investigation. 
  • Ramara (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old whose case is still under investigation. 
  • Oro-Medonte (2): One person between 18 and 34 years old and one person between 35 and 44 years old. Both cases are still under investigation.  
  • Severn (4): Three youth under 18 years old and one person between 18 and 34 years old. Two cases are listed as community-acquired (no known link), one is linked to close contact transmission, and one is still under investigation. 
  • New Tecumseth (5): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 35 and 44 years old. Three cases are linked to close contact transmission, and two are listed as community-acquired (no known link). 
  • Essa (2): One person between 35 and 44 years old and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Both cases are still under investigation. 
  • Muskoka District (4): Two people from Bracebridge, one person from Huntsville, and one person from Muskoka Lakes. 

Included in the new cases reported today are 48 unvaccinated, one partially vaccinated, and 48 fully vaccinated people. 

There are currently 655 active cases in the region. 

Thirty people from Simcoe County and one person from Muskoka District are hospitalized with COVID-19. 

Over the last eight weeks there have been 76 Simcoe-Muskoka residents hospitalized with COVID-19, and among them 22 were fully vaccinated, five were partially vaccinated and 49 were unvaccinated.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 15,806 cases of COVID-19 with 14,873 of those cases recovered and 278 cases ending in death. 

More than 74 per cent of the population living in Simcoe-Muskoka (including children) have received both doses of vaccine and nearly 78 per cent have had at least one dose of a vaccine.

Current school outbreaks in Simcoe County include: 

  • La Source Elementary School, Barrie, declared Dec. 2, four cases
  • Innisdale Secondary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 29, two cases
  • Our Lady of Grace Elementary School, Angus, declared Nov. 29, two cases
  • Unnamed private school, Simcoe County, declared Nov. 26, 23 cases
  • Ferndale Woods Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 26, eight cases
  • Uptergrove Public School, Ramara, declared Nov. 26, three cases 
  • St. John Vianney Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 26, nine cases 
  • Monsignor Lee Catholic elementary school, Orillia, declared Nov. 24, two cases
  • Hewitt's Creek Public School, Barrie, declared Nov. 22, six cases
  • Tosorontio Central Public School, Everett, declared Nov. 22, 15 cases
  • ESC Nouvelle Alliance (secondary school), Barrie, declared Nov. 19, three cases. 
  • Forest Hill Public School, Midhurst, declared Nov. 19, five cases
  • West Bayfield Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 18, seven cases
  • Trillium Woods Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 18, six cases
  • Severn Shores Public School, Cumberland Beach, declared Nov. 18, eight cases 
  • Maple Grove Public School, Barrie, declared Nov. 16, 14 cases
  • St. Marie of the Incarnation, Bradford, declared Nov. 15, nine cases
  • Monsignor Clair Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 15, eight cases
  • W.C. Little Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 12, 10 cases
  • Terry Fox Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 10, 12 cases
  • St. Catherine of Siena Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 1, 11 cases

A school in Huntsville has been closed. There have been 25 cases associated with an outbreak at Spruce Glen Public School. This is the first time the health unit has ordered a school in the region to close during the pandemic. 

An outbreak previously declared at St. Ann's elementary school in Penetanguishene is now over. There were two cases associated with the outbreak. 

Other ongoing outbreaks reported in Simcoe County include: 

  • Orillia Soldier's Memorial Hospital, Orillia, declared Dec. 1, fewer than five patient cases.
  • Waterford Retirement Residence, Barrie, declared Nov. 29, one staff and one resident case
  • Fitness and sports centre, Simcoe County, declared Nov. 26, eight cases
  • Unnamed shelter in Simcoe County, declared Nov. 19, nine cases
  • Unnamed shelter in Simcoe County, declared Nov. 1, 27 cases
