A former Midland resident makes a splash on the small screen tonight.

Jedson Tavernier, 25, is one of the housemates on the series Big Brother Canada, which debuted last night and continues tonight with its first eviction at 8 p.m. on Global TV.

Tavernier, who now lives in Aurora and works as a personal trainer, attended St. Theresa’s Catholic High School before moving on to the University of Western Ontario where he played on the school’s varsity basketball team.

"This well-rounded ladies’ man is confident he holds the three essential qualities needed to succeed on BBCAN: athleticism, intelligence, and a charming personality,” Tavernier’s biography on the show’s website states.

In a video outlining his hopes for the show, Tavernier described how his athletic career provided him with mental toughness and discipline, two attributes he expects will serve him well in the Big Brother household.

He also talks about his other career.

“I recently got into professional modelling,” he said on the video that shows him walking around his home gym, shooting hoops and touring his home.

“I’ve been doing fashion shows for a couple of years. I’ve always loved being in front of the camera.”

Tavernier also talks about experiencing some prejudice and discrimination growing up in a small-town. He noted that instilled in him a hope to help invoke social change going forward.

He goes on to describe himself as single and notes that “hopefully, there are some nice ladies in there. Ladies, the heart wants what it wants. A little hug, a little kiss, who knows maybe I'll be marrying you."
