Orillia City Council welcomes Amanpreet Singh Sidhu as the new General Manager of Corporate Services/City Solicitor for the City of Orillia effective July 21, 2020.

Council authorized the hiring of Mr. Sidhu at yesterday’s Council meeting on the recommendation of the recruitment panel, which consisted of Mayor Steve Clarke, Coun. Ted Emond, Coun. Jay Fallis, Gayle Jackson, Chief Administrative Officer, and Lori Bolton, Director of Human Resources.

“On behalf of Council, I would like to welcome Mr. Sidhu to the Sunshine City,” said Mayor Steve Clarke. “Mr. Sidhu’s experience and qualifications in the business, legal and municipal fields are extensive. I am very confident that his solution-minded leadership and breadth of knowledge will be a great addition to our amazing staff and Senior Leadership Team as they carry out the vision, mission and goals of Council’s recently adopted Strategic Plan.”

Mr. Sidhu will lead the City’s newly formed Corporate Services/Legal Department (Clerks, Financial Services, Information Technology and Real Estate services), which is part of Orillia’s future-focused organizational structure. The new structure was informed by the findings received as part of the Municipal Core Service and Organizational Review and Strategic Plan project completed in late 2019.

Mr. Sidhu brings a wealth of experience to the City of Orillia, with more than 15 years in diverse legal, business and leadership roles. Mr. Sidhu most recently worked for the Town of Midland as the Director of Corporate Services and Town Solicitor, as well as interim Chief Administrative Officer.

In Midland, Mr. Sidhu played a role in the successful implementation of significant initiatives such as: switching to the Ontario Provincial Police as the town’s police service saving approximately $10 million over the coming years, incorporation of the Midland Bay Landing Development Corporation to develop a 42-acre waterfront site in Midland, and the sale of the Midland Power Utility Corporation (MPUC).

“Mr. Sidhu is a welcome addition to the City of Orillia’s experienced and dedicated Senior Leadership Team,” said Gayle Jackson, Chief Administrative Officer. “I am very excited that Mr. Sidhu will be joining our team in July. Mr. Sidhu’s legal background, along with demonstrated ability to mentor, lead and action innovative solutions in a wide variety of areas, will serve the City very well. I look forward to his valued contribution to our team.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the Orillia community and join the staff and leadership team at the City,” said Mr. Sidhu. “Orillia has a rich history and so much to offer. I look forward to contributing my skills and experience in achieving the future that citizens of Orillia dream and aspire for.”
