Daley will be locked up at least 18 years for father-son murder

Dyrrin Daley found guilty in August of two counts of second-degree murder; Nickolas and James Pasowisty were stabbed to death in 2017

Dyrrin Daley will spend at least 18 years behind bars for murdering a father and son in their Barrie home in 2017.

The sentence was handed down Thursday morning at the Barrie courthouse. Daley will not be eligible to apply for parole until serving at least 18 years of his sentence, the judge announced.

Daley, 28, was found guilty in August of two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing deaths of a father and son in their Barrie apartment following a month-long trial.

Nickolas Pasowisty, 19, and his 51-year-old dad, James Pasowisty, were repeatedly stabbed in their Allandale apartment on Feb. 8, 2017.

During the trial in Ontario Superior Court in Barrie, Daley told the court he went to the men’s Allandale duplex in the middle of that winter night to buy marijuana, figuring the younger Pasowisty was still up. But he said when inside there was an argument about money and Daley said the two men attacked him.

Daley testified that he pulled out a pocket knife, having only enough time to extract one of the two blades, initially intending to scare off the men, but then striking out when he feared they would toss him off the balcony.

During sentencing in August, Justice Vanessa Christie said exactly what happened that night may never be known. But she did find Daley went in, using his flashlight, likely into the Pasowistys home as they lay sleeping.

Inside, he was confronted by one of the two men who had woken and a struggle ensued, which is when Daley pulled out his knife.

The two unarmed men then tried to defend themselves as the struggle moved throughout the apartment.
