126 new COVID cases in Barrie since Thursday

Three more deaths reported today include two Barrie residents and one person from Innisfil

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 371 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths since Thursday in today's update (April 6).

The deaths reported today include two Barrie residents and an Innisfil resident.

There are 665 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region, most of which are in Simcoe County.

The health unit has reported 1,477 cases have screened positive and/or been confirmed with sequencing as variant cases. Of those, 302 are still active cases. Screening and sequencing tests can take several days, and sometimes results are not returned until after the individual has recovered. 

Sequencing and PCR tests have confirmed 1,084 cases of the B.1.1.7 (variant strain that originated in the UK) in Simcoe Muskoka. There have also been 18 cases of the P.1 variant that first originated in Brazil in the region and one case of the B.1.351 strain that originated in South Africa.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 8,129 cases of COVID-19 with 7,168 of those cases recovered and 203 cases ending in death. 

There are 41 people from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19, which includes 11 new hospitalizations since Thursday.

The health unit has administered 109,581 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 in Simcoe Muskoka, with 2,544 doses given yesterday. 

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified): 

  • Collingwood (19): Two youth under 18, five people between 18 and 34 years old, four people between 35 and 44 years old, four people between 45 and 64 years old, and four people between 65 and 79 years old. Three cases are outbreak-related, one is attributed to community transmission, and seven cases are linked to close contact. 
  • Wasaga Beach (8): One youth under 18, five people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is linked to close contact. 
  • Clearview (2): One youth under 18 years old and one person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is attributed to community transmission.
  • Barrie (126): Fifteen people under 18 years old, 58 people between 18 and 34 years old, 13 people between 35 and 44 years old, 27 people between 45 and 64 years old, 12 people between 65 and 79, and one person over 79 years old. Eight cases are outbreak-related, nine are attributed to community transmission, and 19 are linked to close contact.   
  • Springwater (9): Two youth under 18, two people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and four people between 45 and 64 years old. Four cases are linked to close contact.
  • Innisfil (37): Ten youth under 18 years old, 10 people between 18 and 34 years old, six people between 35 and 44 years old, five people between 45 and 64 years old, three people between 65 and 79 years old, and one person over 79 years old. Two cases are attributed to community transmission and 15 are linked to close contact. 
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (71): Fourteen youth under 18 years old, 23 people between 18 and 34 years old, 13 people between 35 and 44 years old, 14 people between 45 and 64 years old, four people between 65 and 79 years old, and three people over 79. Thirty-one cases are linked to close contact, four are outbreak-related, and four are attributed to community transmission.
  • Orillia (4): Two people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is attributed to close contact and one to community transmission. 
  • Oro-Medonte (5):  Two people between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 35 and 44 years old. 
  • Midland (3): Two youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Three cases are linked to close contact.
  • Tay (2): One person between 45 and 64 years old and one person between 64 and 79 years old. One case is linked to close contact. 
  • Tiny (2): One person between 18 and 34 and one person between 45 and 64.  
  • Penetanguishene (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old.
  • Severn (4): Two people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Two cases are oubtreak-related and one is attributed to community transmission. 
  • Essa (7): One person between 35 and 44 years old, four people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is linked to close contact and one to community transmission. 
  • New Tecumseth (58): Ten youth under 18 years old, 28 people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, 15 people between 45 and 64 years old, two people between 65 and 79 years old, and one person over 79 years old. Nineteen cases are linked to close contact and two are linked to outbreaks, and one is attributed to community transmission. 
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (5): One person between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and three people 45 and 64 years old. One case is outbreak-related. 
  • There are eight new cases in Muskoka, including two in Bracebridge, three in Lake of Bays, one in Huntsville, and two in Muskoka Lakes.
