Inside the Midland Public Library, families shared in laughter, songs and fun as drag queens from Haus of Devereaux entertained registered attendees March 17.

MidlandToday welcomes letters to the editor at [email protected]. Please include your daytime phone number and address (for verification of authorship, not publication). The following letter is in response to an article about drag queen storytime at the Midland Public Library, published March 17.

As the daughter of the first chief librarian of this grand old building, I am absolutely tickled pink with the drag queen storytime. And I know my mom, Helen Delaney, would be absolutely beaming.

Mom was all about inclusivity, about bringing people together and into the library, about joy and laughter and, above all, the power of books, especially the power of reading to children.

She would have told all those sad, silly people protesting outside to get over themselves, to borrow a book, go home, and read to their children. And maybe learn a thing or two about kindness. Makes me wonder if their moms and dads read to them? Perhaps not.

Three cheers for the Midland Public Library and all who created this life-affirming event. Mom would have been there, as she would have said, with bells on.
