As the daughter of the first chief librarian of this grand old building, I am absolutely tickled pink with the drag queen storytime. And I know my mom, Helen Delaney, would be absolutely beaming.
Mom was all about inclusivity, about bringing people together and into the library, about joy and laughter and, above all, the power of books, especially the power of reading to children.
She would have told all those sad, silly people protesting outside to get over themselves, to borrow a book, go home, and read to their children. And maybe learn a thing or two about kindness. Makes me wonder if their moms and dads read to them? Perhaps not.
Three cheers for the Midland Public Library and all who created this life-affirming event. Mom would have been there, as she would have said, with bells on.
