The county is moving toward a curbside bin collection system. In their infinite wisdom, they've decided that one size fits all. That is to say that there will only be one bin size for each type of waste - garbage, recycling, organic. They tell me that it will be based on the average household requirement.
I'm a widower senior. I live alone. My normal waste for a week is as follows:
Garbage: One regular grocery bag of waste every two weeks.
Recycling: One small recycling bin every two weeks.
Organic: One small 10L compostable bag per week.
I live in Waubaushene. I have a wooden garbage box constructed at the end of my driveway.
The night before garbage day (They come early), I merely walk my small amount of garbage/recycling/organic out to my box. Simple.
Now, the county thinks I should store and roll those monstrous bins out to the curb.
When I balked at this idea, the county suggested that I could just do it less often.
1) Organics stink. That's not going to happen.
2) Garbage stinks - even with organics removed, the non-compostable stuff like Styrofoam meat trays reek.
3) I don't want to keep my recycling until it fills their stupidly large bin.
The simple solution is to have a choice of bin size. The county isn't listening.
