MidlandToday welcomes letters to the editor at [email protected]. Please include your daytime phone number and address (for verification of authorship, not publication). The following letter is in response to an article about the resignation of MBL board members, published Feb. 21.

Mayor Gordon’s summation of events related to MBL provides the citizens of Midland with a new “slate” for the design and use of this outstanding and last piece of available Georgian Bay shoreline within Midland.

The withdrawal by the Barrie-based development company, the resignation of the entire MBL board, departures of the town CAO, and the prior mayor, the chair of the MBL committee and the current council’s significant reduction of the MBL budget ($250,000 to $50,000, approximately) are welcome indications for a new chapter in the planning of this unique lakefront Midland property.

Make no mistake, there are numerous challenges ahead. However, the new mayor and council are committed to a new approach. This time, let us hope there will not be just the opportunity, but real committed and knowledgeable input from all public sectors so that the lands are available for all in the future.

Congratulations to the citizens of Midland and to those now chosen to provide more meaningful leadership for the public use of MBL waterfront property.
