Dear Editor,

So this gun-control thing, well we are not thinking this through, again.

I don’t own a gun, but if the opportunity arises or someone wants to give me one, maybe. For protection a handgun seems useful, but who do I need protection from? If I’m a farmer then a high-powered rifle or shotgun can help keep critters that want to eat my profits at bay.

Everything else unless used for sport hunting, not interested or target practice, more appealing perhaps.

But here is the thing. Guns are already out there. And it seems getting them legally or illegally is no problem.

So my inclination is to let people buy guns, any guns , knock yourselves out.

Control the gunpowder and bullets. Guns don’t kill people….bullets do.

Make bullets and gunpowder only available at police stations. The police can sell them at a profit too. Register everyone who comes in to buy them. Micro-serialize the casings.

And unlawful bullets can easily be dealt with because the cops are going to know where every other bullet is coming from. Of course if you buy bullets they must be stored under key by law.

Crooks are not going to go into a police station to buy bullets or gunpowder.

Gunpowder has a smell easily detectable by sniffers and dogs. Which makes the bullets harder to smuggle across the border. Guns were let out of the bag along time ago. Let’s not take away things already out there. Let’s control bullets instead.

Let's have stiff laws on buying high-power, hollow-point, 303 bullets etc.

Obviously M16 rifles use only a certain type of bullets. We’ll limit the quantity of those bullets. If one buys those bullets the police will know you have them therefore one can assume you have an M16 rifle or something just as stupid.

So sell guns and control the bullets. Please.
