Keeping morale high during challenging times can sometimes be difficult.

But Wendy Mullin hopes a new project will at least bring smiles to the faces of local essential-service workers in the face of growing uncertainty.

“I want to be able to give back to the community and thank the front-line workers,” Mullin said.

The Midland woman, who works for a local marketing firm, has created a novel approach to give back to the community while encouraging area children to pursue an additional creative outlet.

She’s hoping her Doodles for Good venture will inspire kids to create something special that can be shared with those who can’t work from home during the current COVID-19 pandemic since they’re considered essential and must continue heading into the region’s hospitals, grocery stores and other facilities.

She says kids can draw a picture of thanks; whether it be to the doctors, nurses, grocery store workers, bank tellers or anybody else who is lending a hand during the crisis.

And for every drawing she receives, Mullin will donate $1 to the Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation, which will share the drawings.

“Two of my friends are also going to match the donations,” she said, noting children should enjoy creating their thank-you notes while also feeling good through their philanthropy since they’re helping lift the spirits of others.

“It gives them something to do that can impact the morale of those working to help us during this time.”

Foundation executive director Nicole Kraftscik appreciates Mullin’s efforts.

“Wendy is such a creative genius,” Kraftscik said. “She has taken two important priorities for the Foundation and combined them into a fun, engaging initiative!”

Kraftscik said fundraising continues to be of great importance during these challenging times.

“And the staff at GBGH need to see and hear how much their dedication means to our community,” she said. “We are so grateful to Wendy for stepping up in this way and inspiring others to join her.”
