Health unit confirms four new COVID-19 cases in region's hotspot

The health unit reported six new cases in Simcoe County today

The region's health unit is reporting a new COVID-19 case in Clearview Township, which is the first new case for Clearview since June 15. 

The health unit reports the case is community-acquired and was discovered in a man between 45 and 64 years old. 

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit confirmed a total of six new cases today, including the Clearview man.

There are four new cases in Bradford West Gwillimbury. Two male children under the age of 18 are reported among the Bradford cases today, one was community-acquired, the other was a close contact case. A woman between 35 and 44 years old also tested positive, she too was a close contact. The final Bradford case is a woman between 45 and 64. The transmission source for the last case is under investigation. 

The sixth case reported today is a woman between 18 and 34 years old from Severn. The transmission source for this case is also under investigation.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 652 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region to date, with 621 of those reported in Simcoe County. 

Thirty-six people have died in Simcoe County and Muskoka and the health unit has reported 582 recoveries. The incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 109.7 cases per 100,000 people in the population. 

There are 34 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County including four people hospitalized, according to the health unit's July 27 epidemiological report. There are no active cases in the District of Muskoka.
