Health unit confirms 11 new COVID cases in Simcoe County today

Case confirmed in Orillia after more than a month without any new cases

The health unit has reported 11 more lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County today. 

There is one new case in Orillia, which has not had a reported case of the coronavirus in more than a month. The case reported today is a woman in her 40s, and the transmission source is listed as community-acquired by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

The last time a case was reported in an Orillia resident was May 21. 

There is one new case in Barrie, a boy under ten years old, who is a close contact of another case. 

In Innisfil there are three new cases reported today including a man in his 60s (community-acquired), and two girls, one under 10 and one between 10 and 19. Both the latter cases are close contacts of another case. 

A Bradford woman in her 20s has tested positive for the virus, which she acquired through community transmission. 

One of the cases is a New Tecumseth man in his 70s who is a resident at Simcoe Manor long-term care facility. An outbreak has been declared at that facility and the male resident is, so far, the only known case in the home. 

Another New Tecumseth resident, a man in his 30s, is also among today’s reported cases and is reported as a close contact of another known case. 

The final cases reported today include a man in his 50s from Severn (community-acquired) and a man and a woman in their 40s from Ramara, both are close contacts of known cases.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 575 cases of COVID-19 in the region to-date, and 467 are reported as recovered (81 per cent). There have been 36 deaths in the region linked to the coronavirus.

There are 72 active cases of COVID-19 in the region (69 in Simcoe County), including five people who have been hospitalized with the virus.
