The candidate list for Tay Township deputy mayor became tighter recently.

Jeff Bumstead withdrew his candidacy in the upcoming 2022 municipal election slated for October 24.

“After considerable consideration, deliberation, thought and discussion I decided to remove my name from nomination for Deputy Mayor and I will not run for Tay Council in the 2022 Municipal Election,” wrote Bumstead.

“My time will be spent focusing more on family, friends, the community and other endeavours.

“I would like to thank all who supported me, provided input and shared ideas during the last election and throughout this Council term. I wish good luck to all candidates in the upcoming election and continuing to work toward goals of improving and betterment of Tay Township, moving forward and through the next term of Council.”

Bumstead’s candidacy announcement at the start of June coincided with the withdrawal of fellow Tay councillor Barry Norris, who had also entered a nomination for deputy mayor in the upcoming election.

Upon Bumstead’s announcement, Norris returned to the nomination list as a candidate for Tay Township deputy mayor.

Nominations for Tay Township candidacies for mayor, deputy mayor, and council positions remain open until August 19 at 2 p.m.

Information on the Tay municipal election can be found on the Township of Tay website.
